Enjoy your tour of our grounds and we hope to see you soon!
You're here!
Executive Director Michael Harris and his wife, Ruby, reside on location. The rose garden was generously donated and planted by Wingate Baptist Church adult Sunday school. Their work is in bloom many months throughout the year for everyone to see.
You and your rider will wait in the parent observation deck until the session begins. You can watch everything your rider accomplishes from this point and enjoy shade and fans in the summer months. The deck was constructed by the group In As Much with Benton Heights Crossroads Baptist Church and named in honor of Ben Grasmeyer, one of the first riders at Mephibosheth Farms.
Our new office constructed by Mike Crump in memory of Pearson Thomas, is where Marla and Michael keep their paperwork and do our rider's progress notes. It's called Pearson's Place.
Each rider will prepare for their ride at the tack room
where they will get their helmet before mounting. Alpha Xi Delta sorority
at Wingate University donated the money for one of the tack rooms as we continue
to expand. Many thanks to all those who have donated tack to our program!
We use our wheelchair ramp for mounting those in wheelchairs as well as those with little legs! From there, we walk around our riding yard and arena working on various games and tasks that are rider specific so they can meet their individual goals. These games include legos, alphabet, grocery shopping, chain links, shapes, ring toss, ball toss, stretching, riding backwards, sit-ups, as well as talking and laughing! (laughing a lot!!)
We use our covered riding arena when there is inclimate weather and for shade but usually we ride in the arena part or all of most lessons, we have seen alot of riders become independent in this arena!!
We love trail rides! We have three main sensory trails that intertwine creating a sanctuary from the sun in the summer and wind break from cooler winter winds. The riders enjoy counting toys, spinning spinners, touching chimes, looking in mirrors, and being surrounded by nature. The "All Saints" trail was created in summer 2004 by youth participating in Passport Youth Camps.
The "Lower Trail" was an original trail at the farm but well before the time of the Angelic Riders program. Passport Youth Camps again revived this trail by clearing it for use during the summer of 2003. The bridge was added in order to cross a continually muddy section in 2004 by a men's Bible study at Calvary Baptist Church.
Now that the ride has come to an end, the horses are un-tacked and brushed back at the tack room before going back out to pasture. We hope you enjoyed your tour and have a good idea of the ministry at Mephibosheth Farms. We look forward to seeing you!
Happy Trails!!
